ABOUT
EARTH CITIZEN DESIGN
Attention to Detail
I have to confess, a crooked picture on the wall…
I’m one of those people who feels compelled to straighten it. Even if they’re just one millimeter off of level, I can
tell. And I just have to
straighten them.
Fortunately, as a graphic designer, and as someone who manages design
projects on your behalf, that kind of attention to detail is a good thing.
My whole life… I’ve always
had an eye for balance, symmetry and harmony.
I feel as though balance, symmetry and harmony are the hallmarks of
my design work.
Why earth citizen?
I really can’t pinpoint a time, or event, in my life that sparked my
artistic interests. It’s
always been with me.
I remember, though – it was in the mid-1990’s – painting murals on the
walls in my home. I was in the
midst of my MBA studies at the time. And
I started taking some computer classes.
I remember that it seemed natural – and fun – to combine the two:
The balance, symmetry and harmony of design work with the power,
speed and flexibility of computer software.
That was the origin of what has come to be Earth Citizen Design.
How did I choose the name “earth citizen design?”
Well, I’ve always thought it was neat to have business cards. But, before I had a business, I couldn’t very well have
business cards. So, instead, I
made myself “personal cards.” The
only hitch was that I didn’t have a job title.
So I listed my title as “Earth Citizen.”
I like the connotation of perspective and stewardship in being an
“Earth Citizen.”
In 1997, when I decided to start my own design business, I remember talking
to my husband, Carl, and his brother, Klaus, about what I should call it.
They really liked the “Earth Citizen” title.
So I kept it.
